How do I actually download the maps I've subscribed to? I hope it doesn't involve going into the actual Portal 2 game, as it's a bit of an inconvenience to have to start it up just to download the maps. N.B. I've left the Portal 2 tag out because I assume all Steam workshop pages work in the same way, and answers will apply to other games as well.

I have subscribed to a couple of mods on steam workshop for arma 3 and after they download they don't seem to show up. In the past when this would happen I would keep the launcher open for a couple hours and the addons would show up but that doesn't seem to work anymore. Some mods that were unsubcribed were subscribed to and loaded". For all of these mods, I have (a) checked that I'm not subscribed to that mod on the Steam Workshop and (b) checked I don't have the mod file in my skyrim data folder. This is nothing to do with Steam Downloader and the API, and everything to do with the publisher of the game not enabling those who don't own the game on Steam to download workshop mods. The API Steam downloader (and similar web pages and tools) uses is a web-based API - it never had anything to do with the game itself. Developers are not typically involved with mods or their creation, other than allowing their games to support them. I've just had the issue I have seen other people have where steam all of a sudden tries to re-download all of your subscribed mods. I found that if you click 'Local mod' in the Arma 3 launcher to add a mod locally and then navigate to the mod within the '!Workshop' folder you can add all of your subscribed mods. The only thing that you do put on the website is a Steam Workshops Mod URL. Only subscribed to a few, and tried playing with one simple mod to see if they're working, but it doesn't. No combination of mods work, so I don't think it's a mod issue. They're offering another download link on their Steam page, if you have any problems and would like any help or advice then please do not hesitate to contact me via youtube.
